Night Out and About

The gallery full of people when I left at 8pm

Well last night was great! A gallery full of people and great conversations.
The Printmaking group I belong to divides up the task lists and everyone takes a roll in the annual event. This year I signed up for all the stuff that needed to be done at the beginning, as I knew I was going to be tied up with my own show stuff. So when it was time to bring in art, and hang the show all I had to do was bring in my art and wait for the opening night.
I try and stay away from the gallery when the group hangs the show, I like to be surprised. I don't look at what people turn in and I don't want to see where my stuff might be hung.
So when opening night comes around, I have a set of new eyes on the event just like everyone else.
The show looks great, I am always amazed how several people working in several different mediums, in separate locals all seem to make a cohesive body of work. Our folio pieces look amazing!

The show was a success and I brought my cards for my upcoming show and put them on a table next to a bowl of nuts...their first public debut! People had them, and were asking me questions....
I also saw a lot of people hanging around my work....

*****WARNING THIS IS TOOT MY OWN HORN TIME ****

a group had gathered

people were talking about my work and how they related to it and it reminded them of x y or z.
It felt nice.

Busy Busy!!

My workspace is a wreck, I have one project after another going...
I am not complaining, don't get me wrong....I feel so lucky to have all these chances to show and have my work be seen.

I am signed up for Artwalk here in Ventura, I (along with a few others) will be representing Seabreeze Studios.
Stoneworks Studios is the background for my booth space, Michelle Chapin puts together quite a scene! Artists set up spaces in one of the COOLEST spaces along the avenue. A literal oasis in the middle of the cement, a garden of Eden. Food, music and art all day long for two whole days!
As my friend Noodle says:
" For 18 years Michelle has participated in Art Walk. She opens her space up to other artists in Ventura to display work. She loves art and has a community spirit. She likes to throw a party and have live music, delicious food. Michelle and her partner Guy are also organizing another community art installation project like their "Door Project" with chairs and bicycles, called "Park and Ride." This will also be on display.

I have a shade and a table to set up my goods and I will spend the weekend sitting and people watching and if I am really lucky, selling some small images!
I will be there from 1-9pm on Saturday October 25th and Noon -5pm Sunday October 26th!!
I have printed a bunch of small black and white images, some color images and a few artist prints. All will be ready for frames.
So back to work as I also have to get my submission ready for the Dia De Los Muertos juried show!!
those are due next week...

Dream...

Our truest life is when we are in dreams awake.
Henry David Thoreau

Over the last few months I have been creating images for this show, with one theme in mind. This focus has allowed me to refine my ideas and vision for this exhibition.

Ever since I was a child, I have had a combination of awakened dreams and thinly veiled sleep. For this show I have created a theme based on this idea. I found that these images when viewed together create a starting point for dream time remembrances. My hope is that when viewing these works you are drawn back to that sensation; that moment of subconscious awareness and journey.
I will have 6 images in the gallery and two in the studio space. All relate to one another.
I hope you are able to make the show and I look forward to hearing your thoughts on these images.

Rounding the corner....

My recent activities have allowed me to step away from my work for a little bit and let it settle down in my head. I needed this sifting to occur, as I am now able to sort which works will be shown and what will be seen another time.

I have spent time with my niece before she started kindergarten, had a couple of days with my goddaughter, spent a few days out with some longtime friends, and I have attended a Master gardener workshop:

I can say I am in the home stretch of preparations...frames are in the house and the mat board is here, now the labor. Cutting mats and framing the work, I actually love this part....all the work is done and the final look is about to be assembled.

My new cyanotypes are large and are my newest love...they are the second part of the theme. These lovelies will be displayed in the studio area of Gallery 255, meaning you will have to seek them out!
I have yet to mention what this theme is, but that will be revealed in the next day or so...
I love surprises, don't you?
