Here I am

Here I am.
I know it has been quiet around these parts...
well after my birthday and NIAW I was spent.
So I took a little bit to rest a spell, so to speak.

So I went to the opening of CONFLUENCE last night.
I have work in shows in both Los Angeles and Santa Barbara opening on the same night!
How very continental....swanky indeed.
I had to decide which to attend, and found that it was far more realistic to attend the SB event!
Hard decisions, I know
The Juror Peter Frank was there, and very gracious with explaining how he selected the exhibition.
Explaining the difference between juroring a show and curating a show.
He said being a juror is far more suited for the lazy.
Curators seek out work that connects, jurors simply build a show with work provided.
He had 547+ works submitted and took this monumental task t
o reduce the exhibition down to 43 works, 43 artists!
Amazing odds!
I am over the moon to be part of this BEAUTIFUL exhibition:

Dizzy

I started writing a really long post about the last few days...but it seemed too word laden...so instead I will post a small album of images instead...I am a visual story teller anyways....
I am dizzy from trying to process all that has happened in the last couple of days.

When I got my first glimpse I fought back tears of extreme joy and thanks

a lull in the crowd

two people looking at two of my three images at the show
Impressive as they needed to wait to get this view.

the next morning I scrubbed what was left of my mascara off my cheeks
and spent the morning at a holiday boutique at my husbands work.
I sold these little terrariums, necklaces and paper goods

The sea on the way home to two more art openings!
It was so striking, I stopped and took a deep breathe of the sea air and watched the gulls play in the wind

Christmas trees being delivered to Home Depot....
I had never seen this happen before, I always see them all lined up in lots but never right off the train container and to the shop. I was struck by it.

Night Out and About

The gallery full of people when I left at 8pm

Well last night was great! A gallery full of people and great conversations.
The Printmaking group I belong to divides up the task lists and everyone takes a roll in the annual event. This year I signed up for all the stuff that needed to be done at the beginning, as I knew I was going to be tied up with my own show stuff. So when it was time to bring in art, and hang the show all I had to do was bring in my art and wait for the opening night.
I try and stay away from the gallery when the group hangs the show, I like to be surprised. I don't look at what people turn in and I don't want to see where my stuff might be hung.
So when opening night comes around, I have a set of new eyes on the event just like everyone else.
The show looks great, I am always amazed how several people working in several different mediums, in separate locals all seem to make a cohesive body of work. Our folio pieces look amazing!

The show was a success and I brought my cards for my upcoming show and put them on a table next to a bowl of nuts...their first public debut! People had them, and were asking me questions....
I also saw a lot of people hanging around my work....

*****WARNING THIS IS TOOT MY OWN HORN TIME ****

a group had gathered

the trio with sunsets glare
people were talking about my work and how they related to it and it reminded them of x y or z.
It felt nice.

Grand Event

It was a wonderful opening, it started slow and built to a grand event! About 150+ people were at the show, we went thru bottles of wine and water like there was no tomorrow. People were even buying...I sold two pieces and a third is on a payment option. We as a group sold one of our limited edition portfolios!! I heard the buyer say, "we need this", what a wonderful comment!

My work is displayed at the entrance opposite the front door, so it is front and center, another wonderful surprise for me.
All in all a great turnout and a wonderful time was had by all.

For those of you who have not seen the show, it is open Thursday -Saturday thru Oct 10th.
