Sometimes...

Yep Sometimes I am that girl
The make-up, fashion magazines, and nail polish girl.
Cat in my lap and an overpriced salad in my belly

But rest assured, I know that the women I see in this referenced magazine are not real.
You can't fool me, there are no pores.
Everyone who has a basic understanding of science understands that you can not be alive without pores. So all these over photoshopped women are just paper dolls
with $15,000 handbags.
But my oh my what pretty pretty pictures and colors

Crinoline

Racks of crinoline at the Betsy Johnson Store

Last month I went "shopping" with a friend to the nearby outlets. I am not a shopper.
I don't really enjoy the trying on of clothes, the shopping for shoes and the people telling you that "you should totally get that"
Well this trip I was able to avoid all three. I did a lot of shop dreaming instead!

We went into the Betsy Johnson store, it was magical.
I was sent back to my junior high and high school creations!
There was crinoline as far as the eye could see and the shopkeeper was like Annie Potts in Pretty in
Pink except with a lot of deep lines in her face, that made the eyeliner look that much more bold.

Even with the discounts this dress that I totally fell in love with was still $348
although the store was offering a BOGO (buy one get one offer)

My friend wanted me to try it on, just for fun...
I don't play that game well...if I liked it, I couldn't get it and if I didn't it would burst the bubble of the daydream.
So instead, I wandered and smelled the stiff fabrics and imagined myself one day returning to get any dress I wanted and getting extra crinolines too!

Superficial and shallow I know, there are far far better things to dream about then a dress.

I can honestly say I do not feed this part of the little girl in me often, in fact she is quite forgotten most of the time.
I have almost always had hand-me-down clothes, thrift store clothes and recently clothes my brother no longer wants to wear. The new clothes I have bought, are now several years old and are worn well beyond their $20 price tag.

I really like clothes, I love fashion, I don't understand it sometimes but I admire the thoughts.
So wandering out of the Betsey Johnson store had me swooning over clothes and colors and design.

I have never been to a fashion show, I have watched them on Youtube and TV and read about them in fashion mags at doctor offices...I know that Betsey does cartwheels at the end of her shows.
I admire that....be who you are, dress how you want, dance.

I might not be able to get that dress, but I can have that dream.

Full Of Ideas

although I am thrilled with "plus sized" models walking the catwalk,
I find the fashion not very flattering to their curves.
Come on designers step up your game!

Fashion Week information has stepped into my vision once again...this time, the big news is that there are FULL SIZED women walking the catwalk in NYC!!
Oh my god run for the hills, women that do not have the bodies of a 10year old boy are walking in fashionable clothes and looking like WOMEN!
Here is the article I saw today, I mean really that is news...people don't you think that it is about time we saw real bodies, and designers truly challenged to make clothes for real bodies.
Alas, the new broadcast I also saw was in true news agency style...news reporters asking designers,
"do you really think that it is a good thing to make clothes bigger? Doesn't that just mean your clients are getting FATTER!!"
***
OMG are you kidding me!!! Shouldn't the reporter really be addressing that women have been starving themselves to try and look like an airbrushed hungry 14year old model that is made up to look like a women many years older then herself all while not attaining the curves that make a woman a woman!

Slim women are always going to be around and the industry has catered to them for a long long time. It is not that all clothes are going to dissappear for them, but instead isn't it time that clothes that walk on the catwalk be ones I can see myself in? I love the art of the clothes, the performance art of the show and the colors and drama that makes these events possible....but I can not see myself in the clothes as I am not 6 feet tall, and 90 pounds. I am a real woman, with hips and boobs and full thighs. I look like a woman, and I believe that is sexy and what goddesses have been modeled after for centuries!
When I was younger, I longed for breasts and hips and the maturity that made me a woman.
Why is is ok to display children as women and make women want to look like children again?!
Get fashionable people!

Fashion, turn to the left....

Yeah I love fashion, I don't love the image of woman that is being shown as the norm as of late. I can not open a mag and identify with a skeleton in clothes...or the 12 year olds being used to portray women, in these magazines or on the runway. Designers change your sample size from a size zero to a size 10 or something! But I love fashion the running performance art piece that is fabric and vision and art!

I came across a blog about 6 months ago written by Tavi Gevinson, a teenager who LOVES fashion ...as I read her posts I was totally blow away.
Tavi Gevinson is amazingly fun to read, a true lady of independent thoughts and feelings. Her blog is hysterical and her insights are a great cross between geeky teenager and the Hapers Bazaar freelance writer that she is!
She is currently attending Fashion week and is loading pics of her favs as well as showing up in fashion mags herself! She has quite a style of her own and it now rubbing shoulders with all the designers she so loves!
Hats off to you young lady...you remind us all to keep our heads down and do what you love!!

I can not say that at 12 or 13 I was as articulate about my interest in clothes and looking cool, I like many my age...I spent time studying the "cool kids" and seeing what they wore, trying to dress like them was short lived for me and my style burst out and all over the floor of my room and blew open the doors of many a vintage shop. This lead to me being teased about my "sense of style" or lack there of it, by many....but hey kids will be kids. Some of us just do it better!
